Josephine Buschman About Josephine Buschman

My love for photography came to me shortly after high school in 1967. My education in photography came courtesy of the United States Army. In the Army our training was with the good old 4x5 Speed Graphic. My work for the Army was all performed in what was formerly West Germany over a two and a half year period. I can't imagine what I would trade for those years, they were some of the best. Work there consisted of aiding the medical corp of Europe, so there was a lot of traveling. Shooting everything from dental operations, group photos of medical dignitaries, to aerial shooting of military exercises. It was great for an enlisted grunt such as myself to be able to direct (even if only for a few minutes) 3 and 4 star Generals while shooting a large group photo.
My Army career ended and I immediately enrolled in a commercial/industrial photography program at Laney College in Oakland, CA. There I was most fortunate to find myself learning from Bill High. Bill High was old school and worked in Hollywood doing studio portraiture during the 40s and 50s. It was during this period of education that I learned the finer points of large format view camera work, ie;portraiture, architectural, products and so on. I can't say enough about how important those two years were to my photography education. Bill High was a wonderful man to learn from. All of this led to the opening of my own photography studio at the age of 24 shortly after graduation from Laney College.
To be continued.
